Biri-Biri is a sweet spirit that leaves a delicious orange flavor in the mouth with intense Mediterranean aromas from the citrus fruits with which it is made.
This drink has a curious history. Back in 1973-74, a hospitality professional named Pepe Navarro ran Bar Las Vegas on Sabadell Street in Alcoy (an establishment that is still open today). He made a considerable purchase of orange and lemon gin in flasks. As time passed and he saw that the product wasn’t selling, he decided to mix it with orange syrup.
This man was a football fan and a supporter of Real Betis Balompié. At that time, there was an African football player nicknamed Biri Biri, who was the first Black player to play for Sevilla FC. He was considered a cult figure by Sevilla fans, who even named their supporters’ group (peña) the Biris in his honor. The rivalry between Betis and Sevilla fans is well known, and apparently, the customers (as a joke to heckle Pepe Navarro, a Betis supporter) started calling that group of fans Biri Biri.
The Biri-Biri brand has been registered by Licores Sinc since July 1990, producing this sweet spirit with a careful selection of the best oranges grown in the Mediterranean Levant.
It is recommended to serve it at room temperature or cold and serve it in a small glass or shot glass.
